Ada Viola May Gillis Coffin
September 7th 1936 – April 11th 2025
With deep sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Mrs. Ada Gillis Coffin announces her peaceful passing on Friday, April 11, 2025. She died at home, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly, and has now been reunited with the love of her life, Carter, who passed away just six months ago after 66 years of marriage.
Family will receive condolences at St. Andrew's Church on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service.
Ada leaves behind her five beloved children: Marlene (Terry), Allison (Deanna), Brent, Barbara (Jaki), and Karen (Dwayne). She was a proud grandmother to ten and great-grandmother to five, all of whom were blessed by her strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. She will also be missed by her brother, Charlie (Betty), many nieces, nephews, and countless lifelong friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carter, her parents, James Gillis and Grace Coffin, and six siblings.
Born in Runnymede, Quebec, Ada moved to Gaspe as a young girl. She planted her roots, married Carter, built a life on the Coffin family farm and raised their five children with unwavering love, grace, and pride. She was fiercely steadfast, whether at home, on a baseball diamond, atop a hay mound, in her garden or in her bustling kitchen. She was the heartbeat of her family and an anchor in her community.
Ada devoted her life to caring for everyone and everything she loved. Her dedication extended far beyond her home; she was actively involved in numerous community committees, always offering her time, energy, and helping hands to those in need. Everything she poured her heart into flourished.
Even in her final months, Ada remained active, still hard at work just two months before her passing. Her energy and determination were unmatched. She was a constant. A protector. A giver. A quiet force who made life better just by being in the room. As she often said, "There is no rest for the wicked." Now, she can finally rest in eternal peace.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the CLSC home care workers for their professionalism and compassion during Ada's final days. Your care and support meant more than words can express.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ada's memory can be made to the Gaspé Cancer Foundation.

To all the Coffin family, knowing your mom was such a gift. She was a gentle soul with her heart in the palm of her hand. She was always kind to mom, bringing her rubharb, parsnip, beet tops, so mom could make her wonderful soup. They are now all together. May she rest in peace.
