Woodburne Archibald Gilker, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in New Carlisle on June 23, 2024, at 11:51am. He was 82 years old.
Born to Lois Beebe and Archibald Gilker, Woodburne grew up in a loving family alongside his brother Neil, whom he now joins in eternal rest. He was the devoted husband of Leah Trachy for 62 years, a partnership marked by deep love and unwavering commitment.
Woodburne leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife Leah Trachy, his son Nevin and daughter-in-law Marjorie McRae, and his grandchildren Tyler (Danielle) and Regan (Sam), as well as their mother, Debi Woods. His great-grandson Weston, son of Tyler and Danielle Bouchard, brought him immense joy in his later years.
In his professional life, Woodburne was admired for his wisdom and acumen as a businessman. He navigated challenges with grace and foresight, leaving a lasting impression on those he worked with.
Beyond his career, Woodburne was known for his captivating storytelling. His tales wove together wisdom, humor, and a deep appreciation for life’s moments, captivating all who had the pleasure of hearing them.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses at the CLSC for their compassionate care during his illness, particularly Louise, Annie, and Kathy. They are also grateful to Dr. Laliberte and Dr. Basinet for their dedicated support and house calls as well as his family doctor, Jean-Louis Levesque.
Following Woodburne’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, his family will gather privately to honour his memory and celebrate a life well-lived.
Woodburne Archibald Gilker will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
As we bid farewell, may we find comfort in the memories we shared and the love that will forever remain.
