In memory of
Dorothy Phillips
October 30, 1926 – August 02, 2024 - 97 years old
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Helen Phillips. She passed peacefully on August 2nd, 2024 at the Gaspé Hospital at the age of 97.

She was predeceased by her parents, Thornber Phillips and Margaret Miller, and her brother, David Phillips.

Dorothy was a highly respected educator and community historian from Peninsula. She was a voracious reader and author of several local historical documents. A woman of unfaltering faith, she was very active in St. Matthew's Parish. She appreciated the simple things in life, enjoying nothing more than sharing conversation over a cup of tea.

Family, friends and others whose lives Dorothy has touched are invited to Residence Funéraire Valere Fortin from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 5th and from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6th to reminisce and grieve.

The funeral service will be held at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Peninsula on Tuesday, August 6th at 2 p.m., with burial to follow at St. Matthew's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Fondation Santé Côte-de-Gaspé.

Many thanks for care provided to Dorothy by Christine Mullin, Trudy Patterson, the staff of Manoir St-Augustin, and doctors and nurses of the Gaspé Hospital.

Professional services have been entrusted to the Funeral Home Valère Fortin of Gaspé, a subsidiary of the HG Division network certified Distinction by the Corporation des thanatologues du Québec and by the Bureau de normalisation du Québec.

The management and staff of HG Division offer their deepest condolences to the family and thank them for their trust.

I met Dorothy first in 1967 when visiting Gaspe with Alan. We kept in touch through the years after Alan’s parents left the area. She was a very special lady who was always interested in our family as the children and grandchildren grew up. I still have her writings and many wonderful memories of our conversations. She leaves the world a richer place. May she rest in peace.

We wish to express our condolences to Dorothy’s family and the community that she loved so much and especially her Church family at St. Matthew’s. We Gaspesians of the diaspora are so greatful for incredible gifts that she gave to the community including that of the ‘knowledge keeper’ of that part of Gaspe. She will be greatly missed and her memory will be a blessing.

We first met this family matriarch in the 1990s. Even though we lived a few thousand miles away, she faithfully kept in touch and shared some fascinating history about our family. We have been blessed by all that she shared about our roots. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Dorothy was a lovely lady and an important part of our life...she was the niece of my step grandmother, Flora Phillip's, married to my grandfather Hubert Coffin. She was an amazing lady, incredible educator. And family historian. We are all fortunate to have been able to share in her knowledge that she collected and documented about our rich history here in the community we call home in Gaspe. Dorothy, thanks for all you've done to make us recognize our rich history, appreciate our heritage, and love the place, and people we call home.
